1987–, AI executive; co-founder and President of Anthropic
Daniela Amodei is an American AI executive who, with her brother Dario Amodei, co-founded Anthropic in 2021. Before Anthropic, she held senior policy and operations roles at OpenAI (2018–2020) as VP of Safety and Policy, and earlier at Stripe (2013–2018) where she rose to head the Risk team. She holds a BA in English literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she also held a flute scholarship.
As President of Anthropic since its founding, Daniela Amodei has overseen the company's growth from a small research lab to one of the three or four organisations at the AI frontier, with valuations measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars and a workforce that has grown from a handful of co-founders to over a thousand employees. Her remit has spanned policy, communications, recruiting, finance, sales and the broader operational infrastructure of the firm.
Amodei has been a notably visible advocate for the responsible-scaling-policy framework Anthropic pioneered, for AI safety research as a core commitment rather than an afterthought, and for the policy and regulatory engagement that led to Anthropic's central role in the Bletchley AI Safety Summit and subsequent international AI safety institutes. The Anthropic structure where she leads operations and her brother leads research-and-product has been compared to the Watson-and-Crick or Page-and-Brin co-founder dynamic, with the explicit complementarity carrying Anthropic through the period when frontier AI moved from research curiosity to industrial scale.
