1968–, Computer scientist
Also known as: Jeffrey Adgate Dean
Jeffrey Adgate Dean is an American computer scientist whose contributions to Google's distributed-systems infrastructure (MapReduce, Bigtable, Spanner, BigTable, Borg) shaped a generation of cloud computing. With Andrew Ng he co-founded Google Brain in 2011, the deep-learning research group within Google. He has co-authored many of Google's major AI papers, word2vec (with Mikolov), the early TensorFlow design, the parallel-computing architectures behind nearly every Google AI product, and is now Chief Scientist of Google AI.
Dean is also known among Google engineers for an enormous body of internal lore, the Jeff Dean facts parodying his programming mythology, in the style of Chuck Norris jokes, testifying to his unique stature within the company.
